Flexibility

There are many ways to increase your flexibility and make your leg extensions even better.

  • 4 sets of splits, both right and left in 30 second intervals (30 sec on, 30 sec off)

  • Backbends and bridges, 4 sets, the first two in a regular bridge, rocking back and forth, and the next two going into a chair or a straight-leg bridge

  • Use a foot stretcher or a friend/family member to stretch those feet! 4 sets, 20 sec of stretching on each feet. You can use a Theraband and articulate through the foot for increased strength. You may also want to do walk throughs, passing through relevé on each foot.

  • Hang forward with your feet together (weight is recommended) and aim to touch your toes. Let the weight pull you down and relax into the stretch. If you touch the floor, use more elevation, or a yoga block to increase the stretch.

Arm/Leg Strength

Strength is key to have great jumps in all your dances.

  • 20 push ups

  • 20 tricep dips

  • Use a theraband to strengthen ankles

  • 10 squat jumps

  • 20 jumping lounges

  • Straight-up jumps

Core/Turn Stability

The core stability, and back are very important for any turns and pirouettes.

  • 20 sit-ups

  • 20 crunches

  • 30 second plank

  • Use a yoga block to increase difficulty, and hold passe balance in relevé and step forward to push up fast into the pirouette position

  • Keep practicing those turns!
